Day 2

Part 1

Sleep deprivation.
New York the city that never sleeps, it felt like I didn't sleep last night. I did but I woke up at Czech time rather than US time which means there is a theme of tiredness running through the blog. Maybe that's why they call it is the city that never sleeps, because it is full of jet lagged people.

The High Line
This was the first time I've been to a place just because it features in a English language teaching course book. The high line is an old elevated railroad that's been turned into a park in the sky. It's a lovely walk with great views of the west side of the city but boy it makes your feet hurt.

Cliches me and stereotypes.
I wanted to order a big salad in the diner today. I can't believe the diner was exactly as I would have expected; lot's of noise, greasy looking food, massive portions, coffee on tap. A fantastic place.

Sights seen
So ticked off the list today, Chelsea Market, the High Line, a Diner, Fifth Avenue, Macy's, Madison Square Gardens, Central  Park, the Apple Store. I wish I could take smell and sound photos as well as pictures.

Part 2
25 years on.
25 years ago, when I was last in the big apple,  I was such a nervous little boy I would barely say boo to a goose. This evening I was talking to some guy from Virginia in a bar before walking through Grand Central Terminus and heading to Times Square by night. A bright night, full of artificial lights. Times Square has a Vegas feel to it and a massive electricity bill.

Big yellow cab.
After my walk I took a cab home, the first time in a NYC Manhattan yellow cab. It would have been a fantastic experience if the driver had not patronised the hell out of me when talking about his fancy dan touch screen payment system.

Cafe Grump
I didn't go there today because it was closed but there is only one place I am having coffee in NYC from this moment on.

100 Days of Grumpiness Post - My poor feet.
God my feet hurt, they ache. They are as tired as a mother of a colic-y baby that's been up all night with colic. My left leg aches but my right one is throbbing with pain. Why did I walk so far? What is wrong with me? I am in a city with a perfectly good transportation system, with a subway, buses and taxis that will take me anywhere I want to go, and what do I do? I explore the bloody place by foot;  Chelsea Market, the High Line, 5th Avenue, Central Park, zigzagging this way and that, watching the people, smelling the smells, enjoying the sounds. I reckon I walked 10 bloody miles. My poor feet.
